Back in The Netherlands...

It has been a while since my last post....

So many changes... I am sorry I have forgotten you all...

So what is going on

Well we have had a little boy, Hugo and he is growing up fast. 6 months now!

We have also moved back to the Netherlands. It was a lot harder that I thought it would be moving to the other end of the world with a four year old and a 3 month old baby. But we did it and founf ourselves a lovely place to live in Haarlem, a beautiful old city in the west of the country.

It will just take some time to settle and getting back into the swing of things. I am not sure jet when you can expect a new little rose collection, but I hope soon, because I am missing my creative outlet majorly!

I will keep you up to date...

Winter Collection 2011

I am happy to present the new little rose winter collection!

The collection has got a lot of colour, which always makes winter much brighter. Red has been combined with orange & light pink and grey with fuchsia & red. As the collection has been inspired by 'The Sound of Music' it needed leather hose! The leather hose have changed shape in the form of a bright bubble skirt to make them much more girly. They are still combined in the traditional way with a blouse, but then with a little bit of little rose colour.

The skirts in the winter collection are all twirly and the dresses take you back to the Austrian Alps. There is a little pink t-shirt with a Tiroler girl applique and the little vest inspired by the traditional Austrian costumes comes in pink and does combine ever so lovely with the high waisted twirly grey skirt.

Of course we needed the popular ruffled-back-legging back for the little ones! And the fully lined pants from a few winters past have made a comeback too for the little girls who still like to look girly in pink, but just seem to get caught under their dresses with their knees when crawling.

Winter Collection

We are back from a very long holiday to our lovely home country, The Netherlands and Vietnam. Spending our Christmas days in the snow was just wonderful and gave me some inspiration for winter. As it is hard to get inspiration for warm winter clothing in 40 degrees.. haha.. Also Vietnam has been a wonderful source of inspiration especially SaPa, a mountain village in the north of Vietnam where traditional clothing show bright splashes of colour. All that folk clothing and having just been back to Europe, plus singing the Sound of Music's do re mi song to Rose every night when she goes to bed, made me think of the 'leather hose'!
So for the coming winter collection I have found my inspiration in folk clothing and the Sound of Music.
The collection will (hopefully) be ready in March

The little rose fashion show at Willows was great! The shop was beautifully decorated with flowers and there was lots of jummy party food.

Back stage all the girls (and boy of course!) put on their pretty clothes with matching hair pretties by lulufroufrou and some lovely corsages I made the day before.

The girls were happy jumping up for their balloons and filling their hart shaped pockets with lollies and fairy bread.

I am happy to present the new little rose summer collection!

The collection is all very bubbly. There is a bubble dress, bubble sleeves, puffy bubble pockets and cute puffy tulle bloomers, combined with fitted tees and singlets.

The pocket tee from winter has made a come back in a hart-shaped form, ready for little explorers to fill with flowers and stones found along the way.

As the collection has been inspired by Pippi Longstocking it needed an apron dress and stockings! The stockings have changed shape to fit the Aussie spring and have come in the form of biker pants with lovely bow ties on the side.

Pippi Longstokking, colour and confusion!

I have always loved Pippi Longstokking when I was a little girl.
They showed the Pippi shows on Sunday mornings when we were allowed to watch television. She was crazy and full of life.
When I saw the Summer 2010 Louis Vuitton show I loved it! Again crazy and full of life!

Not that I would wear the crazy combinations Jacobs had put together myself, but as far as creations go this is something I am drawn to. The colour, the nothing really fits together and the biker pants!!

This will definitely get me in the mood for summer creations...

Billycart Markets!

The Billycart Markets in Narrabeen were a lot of fun yesterday!
They were held in a beautiful church. The stalls were all so lovely and the coffee was super to start with. Had chats with lots of very creative ladies there.
Big thanks to everybody who came and said hi!

Of course I could not resist purchasing goodies at other wonderful stalls and ended up with two adorable felt hair clips from Roxy Creations, pretty red (love red!) owls on a string from Milly Molly Mandy and I could not resist one of the gorgeous horses from Calamity Bolt.

Parcel from the Netherlands

We are always very excited when the mail man delivers a package from the Netherlands, because it either contains new fabrics, appliques and ribbons or presents!

This week Rose got such a pretty birthday present I had to share it with you all.

My lovely and very talented sister in law made this unique table cloth/little house for Rose.

It is stunning!!

It has a little doorbell, mailbox, windows and a garden on the side with carrots and radishes.

Rose has spent the rest of the day with heaps of pillows in her little house together with her bear of course and I could come and visit or deliver mail, while I was having a cup of tea on top of the table.

Dress Rose

I just have to show of Roses birthday dress ;) I made it for her party last week... I found the pattern on my favorite German site farbenmix. Studio tantrum: Feliz!! Such a gorgeous pattern.

It was a bit of work as the dress is made of two dresses folded and sewn onto each other leaving the back part of the top dress open at the back. Took me a good two evenings, but Rose was happy with it.. Haha...

Tutu for Rose

It was Rose's birthday yesterday and she had made a list for her birthday with one item high on her list. She wanted a tutu! Just like Lola (from Charlie and Lola).

I had found such a pretty one at the Mathilda's Market from little fish creations. Red and hot pink!

Rose got her tutu yesterday and I think I was just as happy with it as she was. It looked divine on her. She didn't want to take it of anymore because she needed it for dancing! After we had carefully put it back in the box with the butterflies on it, she was happy to hop in bed without wearing it. The next morning the first thing she did was put on her new tutu over her pyjama's...

The Mathilda's Market has come and gone and again we had a lovely time. The weather was great, so hubby and Rose were outside playing while I was inside showing all the new little rose clothing.

Luckily grandma has just arrived from the Netherlands and Rose loves her of course, so I will be able to get a lot done....

working from home

This is why I am so happy to be able to work from home.

Last week I was cutting out some shoes when Rose was having her midday sleep. She woke up a bit to early and walked into the room I was working at. 'O pretty colours' she said and sat down beside me to have a look at what I was doing. Then she hopped up, walked to the pile of the pieces I had just cut into shape and started to sort the fabrics while humming a little song.

Ow so cute, I thought. And although it is a real juggle sometimes taking care of Rose and having a little business as well. I was so happy to be able to see Rose in this way and have this time with her. It took me much more time to finish all the cutting, but that didn't matter at all!

New Zealand

Ow New Zealand was great!
What a stunning country. Can you use stunning to describe a country!?
We went to the south Island. Christchurch, Queenstown and everything in between. Gorgeous mountains, lakes and misty bits. Very Lord of the Rings :)
We did some hiking, even Rose walked around for a bit, jumping over the rocks. She loved it.
It was nice and cool there (being Dutch I like that in the Middle of February ;)) and very easy to get around with a toddler.
Rose decided this was the time for her to get potty trained. I wasn't to sure about her timing but she was and hoped on every strange toilet and found nice grass bits to do a wee.
Hubby decided this was the time to jump out of a plane! Rose and I waited safely on the ground and watched him from being a teeny white spot high in the air turning into 'a cat in the hat' as Rose called all the people dangling in the air on a parachute, to landing safely on the ground with a big smile on his face!
I mostly relaxed...

Now back to the sewing again...

Inspiration for winter

It has been a while since I have written something on my blog...

Had a very nice quiet time with Rose.

Just before we are going on a holiday to New Zealand, very much looking forward to that, I wanted to give you a little rose update.

I am working on winter at the moment, so much fun! Though a bit hard with 40 degrees Celsius. I have found my inspiration again in Europe where it is very cold at the moment. My family and friends are sending me pictures of frozen lakes and snow! I must say that I do miss the cold with the rain, ice and snow.

When I lived in Delft I used to travel to Paris a lot for work. It was only 3 hours away by train, which was wonderful. I love Paris. Love the architecture, the greyness of the city and the beautiful vintage colourful furniture. Chanel and Louis Vuitton. The eccentric people, art and not to forget the patisserie.

No wonder that I was drawn like so many others to this place for inspiration.

While I was thinking of Paris, France and Chanel I came to think of Marie Antoinette and have to say that I simply adored the Kirsten Dunst version. Not so much the movie itself but the presentation of Kirsten playing Marie Antoinette. She is in my mind all the time when designing the new little rose winter range!

I had put the fabrics and ribbons together a little while ago and thought that they looked really funky together, but I didn't know what to make of it.

Then I found this beautiful pattern and new it would be perfect. I changed it around a bit and Rose tried it on today.

She loved it!

I think I am going to make a couple more for the Maitland Markets.

Ow yeah, for those of you who didn't know, Marleen and I will be on the Maitland Markets the first Sunday of December.

When I made 'the princess on the pea' t-shirt a bit ago I also thought of making Rapunzel in her tower. The hair had to be wool and the tower out of fabric.

I finally came around to make them today and I am so happy with the outcome.

I couldn't stay true to the real fairytale as I left the door of the tower ajar...

The cutest little fairy

How gorgeous are the Jacaranda's!
I saw them bloom for the first time three years ago and I was stunned by it's beauty.

When I drove home the other day into Lorn with all the Jacaranda's in bloom, listening to "Casta Diva" on the CD player and my beautiful Rose in the back seat I felt inspired to make this singlet for her.

Rose loves the fairy wings singlet. "Just like Tinkerbell!"

I made a more colourful singlet with wings and pom poms for the little rose label and placed it on my made it store.

As a flicked through Vogue I saw a few designers had put the MC Hammer pants back on the runway! I thought that looked very cool and got inspired to make some for the little rose label. They are very comfy, ideal for crawling and great for a rainy day as you can easily put boots on your toddler and the pants are tucked in! I tried them on my daughter and (as we all know a model is supposed to ;)) she loved them.

It was a great day with beautiful stalls and wonderful people!

We are going to be at the Maitland markets this Sunday with M&M for kids, hope the weather will be a bit better, but stock will be limited as I have sold so much at the Mathilda's Market. I have not been able to make much, but for those that are coming I made sure there will be some cute little rose outfits.

Fairy wings for Victoria

Together with my beautiful mothers group friends we have made singlets with wings for little girls, a gift for mums with girls who have been through the bush fires and are now facing rebuilding their homes and communities.
I didn't know where to send them at first, but then I saw this blog handmadehelp and thought it the perfect address to send the singlets to.
We have made about 25, which I know is not heaps, but we hope this little gesture will cheer up a mums day.

I am Mijke (May-ka) Hoogervorst.
I am from the Netherlands and moved to Australia three years ago.

When our daughter was born one and a half year ago I felt inspired to design her own clothes. I got great response and I now make little girls clothing from size 0000 to 3 under the name little rose and sell them on a local market.
I design and make everything myself with my daughter Rose as my personal model, at least when she feels like it...
The designs are unique as I only make a couple of each!
As I am Dutch, the clothes I design are a mix of Australian and Dutch influences. I get a lot of my material and vintage ribbons from overseas and mix them with local fabrics.
I started a stall on the market in Maitland NSW a couple of months ago with my friend Marleen and we both love it. It is so wonderful to do something you really love and it's even better when people like the things you have created!

Luckily my inspiration source is never ending as my little Rose is always near!
